Viewpoint

No matter where you go to college people always ask what caused you to make your choice. Needless to say people are more than a little curious why I'm here in Dayton, Ohio after growing up in the Washington, D.C. area. Although I have various reasons, the biggest of them all was the connection I felt to campus from my very first visit.

Part of the reason I feel so at home is the relationships I've made during my time as a Flyer. I can truthfully say it's almost hard not to make friends at UD. I knew exactly one other person before stepping on campus; now I can't walk to class without saying "hi" to at least a few people. My friends have introduced me to the local traditions including this stuff called Cincinnati chili. I'm still not sure about the chili but there's truth in the statement that people are just nicer in the midwest.

One of my other favorite things about being a Flyer is how I've been able to pursue a number of dreams during my time on campus. For years I've wanted to be a sports broadcaster calling important games and interviewing the biggest athletes. Beginning my freshman year I started working for Flyer Radio and doing play-by-play for Flyer football, baseball, soccer and basketball. My on-air experiences have been thrilling and I was able to impress the professionals during my time as an intern for a local TV station doing, what else, sports.

It hasn't always been easy being so far away from my family and friends, but I now refer to UD as home unequivocally.
