My college search began in earnest last February. When I first started the process I was not familiar with the University of Dayton. I have lived in Boston, Massachusetts my whole life but I thought going to college would be a good opportunity to explore other regions of the country. I generated a list of schools based upon my desires for a medium sized school, an urban location, business and journalism programs and major sports programs. The University of Dayton was one of a number of Ohio schools fitting the model, so off we went to visit six of them.
Despite it being a cold and cloudy February day I was blown away by UD - something clicked the moment I walked on campus. A sense that this was the type of school I was looking for only got stronger from there.
I started with an interview in the Office of Admission. Due to the fact that this was my first college interview I was nervous and had no idea what to expect. The admission officer I talked to put me at ease and really gave me an understanding of what made the University of Dayton a special place. I specifically remember her saying that I would hear a lot about community. I proceeded to take the tour and my tour guide was enthusiastic and informative. The campus was incredibly attractive and all of the students were very friendly, never missing an opportunity to smile or say hello. I could really envision myself fitting into the UD community. By the end of my Ohio trip, the University of Dayton was at the top of my list.
Over the summer and early fall, I continued to gather information about the UD experience. I spoke with alumni, checked out web sites that give a student perspective and read press articles about UD. I kept coming to the same conclusion about the University of Dayton. UD offers a wide range of academic programs, has an active and welcoming social environment and invests a lot of energy in developing a strong sense of community. This is the college experience I am looking for. UD continues to be my top choice.
