Finance (B.S.)
As a finance major, you will work diligently to understand the financing of business enterprises: the financial decision making process, how financial markets function, and the acquisition and management of capital. To prepare for your career, you can concentrate your studies in investment analysis and portfolio management, financial institutions and services, or corporate financial management.
Our department believes educational experiences are best learned through real-world experiences. Accordingly, we offer several opportunities that allow you to apply the knowledge you learn in the classroom to practical business situations.
Learn about the financial process firsthand in the Davis Center for Portfolio Management. The center serves as a hands-on laboratory where you develop and implement strategies in security selection, diversification, asset allocation and risk management, while gaining experience with sophisticated investment management software. Each year, the center sponsors RISE, the world's largest student investment forum, which includes a student investment competition and keynote presentations from the world's most prominent financial leaders.
You can invest real money — and watch it grow — through the Vertically Integrated Investment Program. The program consists of a series of courses leading to the Seminar in Investments, in which you will manage a portfolio that will be worth nearly $11 million by 2010. An advisory committee of professionals from the financial services industry provides you with invaluable feedback on investment strategies.
You can also explore the business world and gain real-world experience before you graduate. Valuable professional opportunities such as internships and co-ops are available, and you will receive significant assistance in obtaining them.
The School of Business Administration's undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
