Determining Financial Need
The financial aid system works on one basic principle: parents and students contribute to the cost of college to the extent they are able. If they are unable to contribute the entire amount, financial aid is available to meet the remaining cost.
The formula to determine financial aid eligibility or need is:
What it costs to attend - What your family can contribute = Your financial need
Families at all income levels can demonstrate financial need based upon their individual circumstances, and most families who apply are eligible.
Families who demonstrate financial need can receive a package of financial aid which usually includes a combination of gift aid (scholarships and grants) and self-help (loans and employment) to meet the need.
