As our world becomes smaller, it becomes increasingly important to understand, communicate and work effectively with people from around the globe. Through our interdisciplinary international studies program, you will not only gain the knowledge you need explore our dynamic world, but also learn how you can make a difference in it.
As an international studies major, you will complete a required set of core courses in anthropology, economics, history, philosophy and political science. You will tailor the program to your interests, and add additional knowledge and skills, by selecting one of the following concentrations:

- Certificate in International Business
- Cooperation and Change in the New Europe
- Global Economic Development Global Environmental Sustainability
- International Journalism
- Marianist Social Transformation
- Migration Peace and Global Security
- Women's and Gender Issues in a Global Context
A self-designed experiential learning component allows you to increase your knowledge of other countries and gain valuable on-site experience. Whether you're interested in business in Shanghai or culture in Morocco, you will be encouraged to explore it firsthand. Through our education abroad programs, you can take courses, practice your language skills, immerse yourself in a new culture, conduct research, or participate in service-learning work experiences in locations around the world. You can also spend a semester in Washington, D.C., as part of an internationally focused internship.
Career Opportunities
All professions need individuals with a knowledge of international issues. Our graduates' language, research and multicultural skills make them highly sought after by government agencies, international businesses, humanitarian assistance organizations and educational institutions. With any of these careers, you will live, work and travel throughout the United States and other parts of the world. Many graduates also continue their studies in law or graduate school.
