It was a hard decision for me to make to come to the University of Dayton, but, it’s one of the best decisions I have made.

In January 2012, I was at the University of Dayton for one semester as an exchange student. This was the first time I was away from home and away from family for such a long time. Being a lactose-based vegetarian, it was tough to get used to the United States culture and lifestyle. The initial stages were tough. But the new surroundings helped me develop a variety of survival skills.

To start with, I was entirely dependent on others back in my country. But over here, I learned to do a lot of things by myself. For example, now I’m able to fix my bike, change light bulbs, clean my room, put together furniture, cook and do my own laundry. I was able to learn all this because of what UD has taught me. It taught me to be independent in life. This is something I will cherish forever.

Because my semester as an exchange student was so rewarding, I decided that I will pursue my master’s degree at UD. Although I had to sacrifice a lot to get here, I don’t regret anything and will be always grateful to UD for everything it has given me.
