World Rhythms Concert: Reggae Activist Taj Weekes
Date: Thursday, November 14, 2013.
Time: 8:00 PM
Location: Boll Theatre, Kennedy Union
"I've always focused on reaching people, not just playing music," says reggae artist Taj Weekes, a St. Lucia native. As a result, Weekes and his ensemble Adowa infuse their music with a true social consciousness - making them the ideal guests on campus this fall. "I grew up listening to the power of music, the lyrical content. That's what matters," says Weekes. In his native St. Lucia, he listened to every song that poured from the family radio, from hard rock and reggae to country and classical. That eclectic mix has inspired his music - and drawn critical praise. His philanthropic efforts have also earned him notice: Weekes is recognized as a Goodwill Ambassador by The International Consortium of Caribbean Professionals (ICCP), and was awarded the St. Lucia House Foundation's "Distinguished Humanitarian Award."
Tickets: $20 general admission; $15 UD faculty, staff & alumni; $10 UD students and youth. Available through the UD Box Office (see link at right.)
