Rivers Institute
The Institute is an interdisciplinary cooperation between students, staff, faculty, and community partner organizations focused on the Great Miami River Watershed and its connections to the Dayton area. After completing a comprehensive seminar planning series the Institute developed a strategic action plan that details its goals and guides its future progress. A key component of the Rivers Institute is the River Stewards program. The River Stewards program is a collaboration of multidisciplinary students dedicated to the conservation and promotion of the Great Miami River Watershed through education and outreach to the University and greater Dayton communities.
The students participate in a weekly mini-course designed to educate them about the watershed, water issues and foster cooperative, interdisciplinary discussions and actions. Currently there are over 45 River Stewards representing three cohorts and over 25 different academic majors.
