Strawbale Construction Project
A strawbale house was constructed in Yellow Springs, OH between August 2004 and March 2005. The following photos portray the construction progress. Click on the images to display a larger view.
We start by framing the house and roof.
Next, the radiant floor heating system is laid.
After the slab is poured, we use a ferrous sulfate stain. This becomes be the interior floor surface.
Now the strawbale walls are installed.
Continued work preparing for the plaster ...
First coat of earth plaster is applied. Plaster is made from sand, clay, chopped straw and water.
Finishing up the earth plaster work.
Solar hot water collectors are installed on the roof.
Some of the mechanicals to go with the solar collectors and the 400-gallon storage tank.
