The Creative Culture Exchange - Where is the poetry?

Posing the question, "Where is the poetry?" join Albino Carrillo (professor, Department of English), Jonterri Gadson (Herbert W. Martin Creative Writing Fellow), Herbert Martin (professor emeritus), Thomas Morgan (assistant professor, Department of English), Charles Freeland (Sinclair Community College) and Jamey Dunham (Sinclair Community College) as they challenge the current voice and soul of Dayton's poetry and creative writing. Be part of a salon that will look deep into the cultural effect of Dayton's place in contemporary poetry. Hosted by UKURI; presented in partnership with the Office of Multicultural Affairs. A 2012 groundbreaking documentary that looks at up-and-coming Latino spoken word artist Lemon Andersen as he struggles to turn his life around having discovered his gift for poetry and performing. Get your tickets now for Celebration of the Arts: Opening Performance and Exhibition

Monday, April 8 at 8 p.m. - - Schuster Center, One West Second Street (Pre-show activities begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Wintergarden.) Free admission, tickets required. Tickets for UD students, faculty and staff are available at the Kennedy Union box office with a valid university ID. Tickets for the general public are available by calling Ticket Center Stage at 937-228-3630 or online at ticketcenterstage.com. Be inspired by a mixture of music, dance and theatre by University of Dayton student performing arts groups in the Schuster Center Mead Theatre. Two-time Grammy Award winner and composer of The Secret Garden, Lucy Simon, will speak and have some of her Broadway show tunes performed. DCDC and DCDC 2 will join our students on stage for two pieces and the directors of the Dayton Art Institute, Jane Black and Michael Roediger, will emcee the evening. In addition, individual student artwork and large-scale collaborative installations will be on display before and after the show in the Wintergarden. The Horvath Exhibition, an annual juried exhibit that started in 1975, features UD student work in a variety of media. The Horvath Exhibition is made possible through a memorial gift from Josephine Horvath in honor of her husband, Bela Horvath, who taught painting at UD in the 1950s.
