A Big Jump

Today was my first day with my first graders and let me tell you, it is such a big difference from teaching sixth graders!  First of all, they are so tiny and cute! Most of my sixth graders were towering over me, but most of my first graders only come up to my waist.

Secondly, there is a huge difference in schedules.  While teaching my sixth graders, I only taught science and I taught it four times a day for 75 minutes each period.  In first grade, their “periods” or subjects only last about 30-45 minutes.  Not only that, but you have to walk them to their specials, incorporate bathroom breaks, and you have things like cafeteria and recess duty.

This is really different for me, since in my middle school placement I had a lot of time for planning future lessons, but my early childhood placement’s schedule is chocked full.  I feel like I am constantly running around and doing things but I don’t really mind because it definitely keeps the day interesting.

These next eight weeks are going to be an interesting and new experience, but I am sure that I will be learning a lot right along with my kiddos!
