Art Show!03.28.2014 | Fine Arts
After our exciting win last night, I was on my way to Louisville, Kentucky today for more exciting things—my best friend’s first art show! I had been many times to visit my friend in Louisville, however I have never actually seen her campus at Bellarmine University before which is pretty sad considering that we’re seniors.
But, the opportunity arose whenever I noticed that she was going to be displaying her art as part of her senior project. As her best friend, I obviously wanted to go and see her artwork as well as show my support.
Fortunately, today was a professional development day so I did not have to teach, as my students did not have school. Since it was just professional development, which is mostly paperwork, we actually got out early, so I was able to be right on my way to the show.
Unfortunately, traffic on 75 was horrendous, as the big March Madness game between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville was also tonight. So, I would be a little late, but luckily her event was open from 5 to 8pm.
When I finally arrived, I was so excited to see her—and her artwork. Even though we’ve been friends since the eighth grade, I have never actually seen the majority of her pieces. So, needless to say, I was amazed whenever I finally saw her paintings. They were awesome and looked so lifelike.
One thing that she does is combine her psychology major with her painting major, so both aspects are incorporated into her pieces of art. For instance, she had a painting of the contents of her purse as well as the contents of an inmate’s pockets whenever they entered the prison. Which I thought was really interesting.
I am so proud of her and her talents and it was truly great to see her.
