The Past Week

The past few days in Italy have been busy and wonderful!  During the week, a small group of us made a day trip to Pisa in order to see the leaning tower (obviously)!  I have to say that I was a little disappointed because there were no touristy restaurants called the Leaning Tower of Pizza, but nonetheless, the pizza that we ate there was amazing.

Also this week, some of us went out to do some karaoke at night which was a really fun time.  It’s funny how popular American music is here—it’s almost all that they play!  One thing that happened during the day whenever I was out with some friends, I ran into one of my friends from my hometown who also happened to be studying abroad! I guess that shows you what a small world it really is sometimes!

Some of the other things that I did throughout the week were seeing the store of a famous violin maker.  Our one professor actually knew her personally so we were able to talk to her for a little bit.  She currently has a waiting list for her violins that she creates and she made the violin for President Obama’s inauguration which is pretty awesome.

In addition to that, some of the girls and I did some shopping on the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge.  Although, I didn’t buy anything because that bridge houses all of the really expensive stores now, even though it used to be the home of butcher shops and delis.  After our shopping, we explored the Boboli Gardens which were absolutely gorgeous and gave us a wonderful view of the city with the Duomo.  It was definitely one of the prettiest gardens I have ever seen.
