When it rains, it pours!10.25.2010It's so windy outside today! I was walking back up the hill to go to my dorm room and I kept getting pelted in the face by leaves and acorns, which is funny, but it actually really hurt because the wind speed was so fast. When I got back, I was told that we needed to go out and sit in the lobby, because there was a severe tornado warning for our area. My roommate and I locked up our door and ventured out into the hall with everyone else from our section.
People were everywhere! There were people with laptops, snacks, music, blankets--it was kind of like a mini get together. A lot of people were freaking out though, and I have to say it was a little scary looking outside. First of all the sky was really bright, like a never-ending flash of lightening. Then, it was so windy that you could see leaves blowing in every direction, and the rain was actually pouring down horizontally. I like storms, though, so I actually thought it was pretty cool looking (as long as I was inside of course!)
Fifteen minutes went by...then half an hour...classes were definitely going to be canceled. But, I was starving. I hadn't had my lunch yet, and didn't even think of bringing snacks with me out into the hallway. Forty-five minutes. I couldn't take my hunger pains any longer. Stu's had just opened, and as much as I don't enjoy purchasing food that is overpriced...I needed something. After, coming out with my carrots and cheese stick, everyone was gone! It's amazing how quickly so many people can clear out of a space. Once I got back to my room, I had an email from the school's safety alert system that we could now go outside and classes would resume in...15 minutes?!
Luckily, I didn't have a 1:30 class, but I did have a 3 o'clock that I definitely was NOT looking forward to. Even though classes weren't canceled I have to say that I will remember this event. After all, this is the closest I have ever been to experiencing my first tornado. But now, I need to put my rain boots on and get ready for class!
