Ok, so maybe Friday was not so bad afterall

09.20.2009Having two classes on Friday, I can't complain. I usually work from 4:30-7:30 coaching at Twigs Gymnastics. But tonight, I had the pleasure to work until 10:30. I'm not going to lie, I was kind of not looking forward to working six hours on a Friday after a long week, but it turned out to be an alright time. The first three hours consisted of the usual coaching of the youth team. Practice went somewhat smoothly, however its hard to work on certain aspects of their routine when some of the team wasn't present. However, despite that small little problem, things went pretty good.

Now, the reason I had to work three extra hours was because of the overnight that was going on. The overnight consists of anyone who wants to sleep over at the gym, where they can swim, tumble, work on different skills, get some food and watch movies. So I had to work out in the gym for the first three hours, spotting kids who wanted to work on new things. At first, it went by pretty slow, but once I stopped looking at the clock, the time flew by.

The last half hour was probably my favorite. All the kids went upstairs to get pizza, and the upstairs overlooks the whole gym. So when they went upstairs, my friend Kelly and I decided to throw up a couple of stunts, just to play around. What ended happening was almost surprising. The pizza man hadn't made it yet, so all the kids were looking through the window watching Kelly and I stunt. Everytime we threw a stunt, we could see them clap and smile, and well it kind of made us feel good. We even did a little bit of tumbling. Though my tumbling skills are limited to a standing backtuck and a running round-off tuck, the kids still seemed to enjoy it. So, to make a long story short, it was cool to show the kids that we, as the teachers, can do fun stuff as well. So although it was a six hour period of working on Friday, it ended up being a pretty fun time. Hopefully the rest of the weekend will be good. Tomorrow my Irish take on Michigan State. Hopefully they can pull off a win, so we will see what happens.

As always, be safe and make good choices
