New Summer Intern!02.25.2013
The hunt is finally over! I had submitted my resume to about 20 places looking for an internship over the course of the past three months. I was looking for a graphic design internship for this summer and was quite anxious about the whole process. Last summer, my work wasn't at a place of high enough skill to be able to be of use within this type of position. When I had looked last year, I had only heard back from one place out of several, which left me pretty discouraged.
This year, I stepped up my game. I put together a fairly legitimate portfolio, resume, cover letter, and reference page. I worked really hard to photograph all of my work in a consistent manner, and I updated my portfolio website so it was up to date. Then I began submitting. I wound up with four interviews. (Four!) I had one in Cleveland and three in Dayton. After interviewing at the graphic design firm in Cleveland, I knew that's where I wanted to go. Unfortunately, though, I wouldn't find out for a little while. The president of the company had told me they usually get about 50 applicants, and interview 15 for their summer internships. But today I received quite the exciting email, that read, "Congrats! You've made the cut from the final four. You will be our new summer intern."
Needless to say, I am so excited. It's exactly the type of place I want to work, and I'm so blessed to have the opportunity to be there for a few months this summer. And another perk? I get to live at home and see my family all the time! I was away last summer and it was hard being away from family. But now I'm really looking forward to summer 2013! I don't say this very often, but I am proud of myself. Hard work does pay off!
