08.06.2011Undergraduate music minister. I am one, in fact. I’ll be playing piano at one mass every weekend, and it’s cool because another girl and I get to pick the music for it and practice with the choir on our own. So essentially we run the show. I had auditioned for this position late 2nd semester of my freshman year, and was very excited to hear that I got it a few weeks later. I had already helped out with one of the masses playing drums, and I even played guitar once. (I’m fairly versatile, musically.) I can play piano, guitar, drums, and ukulele. One thing I’m not so great at is singing. So when I was told that I’d have to be on campus early to help out with the New Student Orientation mass, I figured I would be playing piano. Instead, I am singing. Yikes. But I think I should be okay, since I’ll be in a huge choir. I move in on the 19th – 13 days from today. I just got emailed the UGMM calendar, and I learned that on the 20th there would be an all day orientation-type-thing and rehearsal for NSO mass. I’m looking forward to it, especially since I’ve already worked with some of the older UGMMS who I haven’t seen since school. And of course, I’m looking forward to meeting all those who I don’t know. I’m sure we’ll get to know each other well over the busy liturgical year! Oh, and hopefully I don’t sing TOO out of key. PS- If any freshmen are reading this and can sing, join the 12:00 Sunday mass choir! That's the one I'm in charge of! :)
