A Horrifying Comedy

10.27.2011Now that Halloween weekend is nearing, I feel like I should promote the fall mainstage theatre production I’m in—it’s called “Slasher” and it’s basically a satire of the film industry and of horror films. It’s actually pretty funny, if I do say so myself. The cast is made-up of 6 undergraduate students like myself, two freshman, one sophomore, one junior, and two seniors, and we’ve been working hard on the show since the beginning of September. Now that we’ve got 4 shows under our belts, I think I can start to say a little bit more about the experience itself. I’ve been doing theatre here since my freshman year and I’ve been so blessed with the opportunity to be involved with so many different and amazing shows. I love “Slasher” because I get the chance to work with some great actors and friends, as well as a wonderful director (Linda Dunlevy, who also directed this summer’s Children’s Show). I also get the experiment a little and stretch my acting muscles because I get to play some extremely different characters. My main character, Christi Garcia, is the head of a church group…and let’s just say she knows how to get things done. My other roles are very small bit parts, but they are super fun and I get to use different voices and wear lots of awesome costumes. Let me tell you, backstage is quite interesting with all of the quick costume changes! We have three more shows left, tonight, tomorrow night, and Saturday night, all at 8 p.m. in Boll Theatre in Kennedy Union. If you’re around, come check it out. It’s an hour-and-a-half that will be sure to make you laugh…and maybe scream a little too.
