I Heard 'Nothing'...Except Script Fans

09.12.2011 Saturday night Ashley, Erica, and I drove down to Cincinnati to see Safetysuit and The Script play at the PNC Pavilion at Riverbend. We left around 6:30 pm and arrived at the venue close to 7:30 pm. Luckily we didn’t hit any traffic and we had assigned seats, so we had a little time to peruse the merch tent—Ashley and I bought shirts—and grab a drink of water before heading over our seats. I’ve been a Script fan for a few years now, and I was just beginning to get into Safetysuit so I was super excited for the show. I had heard that they were amazing live, so I was expecting greatness. And let me tell you, the Nashville boys of Safetysuit started the night off strong. If you’ve never heard them before, check out their song “The Moment.” It really gives you a feel for their rock vibe. Their energy on stage was explosive and infectious from the first riff, always a good sign that it’s going to be a good night. At one point, the lead singer grabbed a camera from a girl who was right next to the stage and started taking pictures of the band and himself while he was singing---umm, can you say lucky?! In between sets, PNC played some stellar party-hits and the three of us had a mini dance sesh to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and Katy Perry’s “Firework” while we waited for The Script. They went on a little after 9 pm, and they delivered nothing short of a fantastic show that had us all dancing and singing, and by the end of the show, voiceless. These Dublin natives made Ireland proud, I think. I was pleased to hear them play a pretty even mixture of their old and new albums. I was especially happy to hear my favorite track from the newest album, “Nothing,” which they prefaced with a joke about lead singer Danny. I left the concert with my typical post-show adrenaline and we belted The Script in the car the whole way back to Dayton. And I have to admit that I’ve been listening to Safetysuit on repeat since I got back. However, I should probably start listening to Death Cab for Cutie in preparation for that show on September 30…like I’ve said a million times before, I know I have a problem. But with bands this good, can you really blame me?
