Into the Woods

09.29.2011Yet again, I am late reporting the happenings of my life. But, this is college and midterm-time, so I’ve been studying until the cows come home. However, I did find some time to have last weekend when Studio Theatre took its annual canoeing/camping trip. We left around 9:30 am on Saturday and headed down to Morgan’s campground, a family owned place in Morrow, OH that Studio has been camping with for years. We arrived around 10:30ish, got checked in, and waited for the bus to take us to the canoe launch-point. I canoed with my roommate Lauren for the fourth year in-a-row. It’s become a tradition since that is how we met and first bonded during freshman year. A few people ended up in the river, per usual, but overall nothing too serious. Lauren and I got stuck on a tree branch at one point, but we used our feminine wiles and nature-expertise to successfully free ourselves from entrapment without capsizing! Post-canoeing, we all headed back to the campsite to set up tents and make our traditional fast-food run to the main road. I mean, we had to eat, right? Then, it was time for introductions (because we had some awesome new people, freshmen and otherwise) and a much-needed nap. Following the sequence of normal events, next came kickball and hang-out time before roasting hotdogs and s’mores over the open campfire. Once it got dark, ghost stories and get-to-know you games were enjoyed by all, people slowly heading off to bed as they got tired. We woke up with the sun and nature the next morning and packed everything up. Then, the seniors met up for breakfast at Tank’s (a must-eat place off Stewart and…Wayne, I think?) Seriously, the food is AMAZING. They give you huge portions of delectable such as 5-egg omelets (that’s the small one!), pancakes, breakfast potatoes, etc. And if you want lunch or dinner, try a burger. I challenge you to finish it. All in all, it was a splendid time spent with old friends and making new ones. Camping is one of my favorite Studio Theatre happenings and I’m definitely going to miss it next year. For anyone interested in joining theatre, camping at the beginning of the year is a great way to get to know people!
