Job Hunting We Will Go

11.15.2011I’m looking for internships as if it’s my job. Please excuse the pun. I mean, it kind of is my job at this point, right? I’m a senior on the cusp of graduation, trying to figure out what my next move is. And let me tell you, that’s kind of terrifying. My current goal is to secure something for-credit for next semester so I can bring my semester total to 12 and can still be fulltime and qualify for my scholarship. It’s not exactly an easy feat finding entertainment/video/music internships in the Dayton area, but that’s definitely not going to stop me. I’m not sure what’s gotten into me lately, but recovering from communicable illness seems to bring some sort of inspiration. I’ve been hardcore searching and applying, and I’m just hoping that it will pay off soon. I think part of it stemmed from a call I got Sunday afternoon from a company in Indy who was looking for someone who can speak French (hey! I speak French) and who could communicate with their clients (hey! I have people skills!). Unfortunately, they wanted someone who could start immediately, and considering I’ve still got a semester to go I had to tell the inquirer that I’d keep her contact information and call her in May if I was still looking. The funny thing is, I didn’t apply for her job. I posted my resume on Monster.com a few months ago, just trying to put some feelers out there and never expecting that anyone would contact me. Turns out this is the second offer I’ve gotten. I’m not trying to inflate my own ego or brag, but I’m just saying that I think it’s true that if you make and effort, put yourself out there, and showcase your accomplishments, success will come your way. This is why, although I’m semi-stressing about the job/internship search, I’m confident too. I will find something, and even if it’s not my ideal, it’s a place to start. And you never know where one connection will lead. So, fellow future graduates as well as those just starting out or in-between, don’t be afraid to take chances and go for what you want—you never know what can happen. And hopefully I’ll have an update soon where I can tell you all about my new internship/job!
