Kinda Like Bedrock...Fred? Wilma?07.20.2011Friday I got to experience something super cool
I ate dinner in a cave-restaurant! Before you get too weirded-out, allow me to back-track a little.
We left the school around 2 pm on Friday to head to the Anjou Troglodytiques
aka a bunch of super awesome cave-houses that people actually used to live in. We took a semi-guided tour through the community and got to see what the houses probably looked like many many years ago. The guide said that some people actually lived in them until sometime in the 1930s or 40s I think! Maybe I misunderstood (I still have some issues with numbers occasionally), but Im pretty sure thats what she said.
After the community tour, we went to a winery and learned the wine-making process. Did you know that they make white wine out of red grapes? They definitely do. What determines whether you have red, white, or rose wine is whether the maker presses the grapes with or without the skin and how long the juice ferments. Who knew?! Not I. But now I do. Anyway, after our tour of the caves where they store the wine, which, let me tell you, are a little creepy
I mean, I would not want to get lost in one of those places because its cold and dark and everything looks the same. However, great for storing wine. But I digress. The point is, after the tour, we got to try four different kinds of wine that they make at that particular winery. My favorite was the rose, but Im not exactly a wine connoisseur
Finally, dinner time. We ate dinner in a cave that is a restaurant. How awesome is that?! And it was a true, French, 5-course meal. I cant even begin to describe the food, because there are no words that would do it justice. The point is, I ate so much that its ridiculous. And it was totally worth it.
And Im thinking about getting one of those cave-homes
