The 'Buzz' About Internships

11.20.2011Remember how I said I was looking for an internship for next semester? Guess who secured one…this girl! Yes. You are reading the blog of Buzznet’s newest online intern for Spring 2012. If you’ve been following me for some time now, you’ll recognize the name Buzznet, because I’m an occasional blogger and two-time event volunteer for them. Hint: Search back to my posts about Lollapalooza. Anyway, I’m sure you’re wondering how I got this sweet gig and what exactly I’ll be doing. Allow me to explain. I’m going to start off by saying I love the 21st century and technology. Next, I kind of like Twitter. Finally, I got this internship by tweeting @breesays, the music editor at Buzznet, asking if she needed an intern. I met Bree a few years ago at the Bamboozle Roadshow and worked the Buzznet photobooth, so I was hoping she remembered me from that as well as my collaboration with my friend Kayla at Lolla. Turns out she did need an intern and proceeded to @reply me until I e-mailed her officially. I’m just going to re-emphasize the fact that I got this internship by tweeting...and regular networking. But social networking—don’t underestimate it. Not that I recommend tweeting at a Fortune 500 company looking for a job. But in the media industry I was willing to take a chance that might work out…and it did! Basically I get to write stories, help with band features, and work on online marketing…aka getting the awesome updates out for everyone to see! This means that I’ll probably send all this cool info your way when I upload something new, so get prepped for music/pop-culture awesomeness. And the best part of this deal, I can do everything from my bed while wearing pjs and drinking coffee. Literally, it’s a virtual internship and all my work is online so I don’t even have to leave my house. Want to follow my Buzznet adventures? Look me up at and click around the rest of the site while you’re at it. I’ll most likely be uploading on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays next semester. Coolest job ever? Basically. Advice? If you want something, don’t be afraid to ask. Sometimes that’s all it takes.
