Youtube is a Tutor

06.27.2011Update number two of the day--what have I been doing besides working? Well, more work. A different kind, but still kind of the same. Wow, that's confusing. Allow me to explain. Being a media major has its pros and cons. Something that classifies as both, I think, is that a lot of times you have to just learn by experience. Which is what I've been doing lately in regards to sharpening my editing skills on Final Cut Pro. I finally finished the basic editing process with Full Circle (the Studio Theatre sketch comedy show) from last semester and I decided to step it up a notch when it comes to the DVD itself. I decided to make a menu! I know, it sounds really lame and super easy, but there's a whole lot more to it than I expected. At first I tried to learn by reading the manual, but I quickly abandoned that because it might as well have been written in Chinese for all I understood. Yeah basically nothing. So then I turned to my trusty friend Youtube to learn from other Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro users. This was definitely a step in the right direction. There's basically a tutorial video for everything, and I've been watching some of them while following along creating my own project. I've actually made some decent headway and my menu works, as far as I can tell. Of course, it's pretty basic thus far, but I think that I'll be able to create some more advanced things in the near future. Just a quick shout-out to everyone who posts tutorials...you're making my life a whole lot easier!
