Size & Shape
Designed as a subtle reference to the banners hanging inside Catholic churches, banners are a signature graphic element of the University of Dayton brand. In terms of size, banners should be arranged vertically with the angled edge pointing down on either the left or right. This angled edge should always measure 30 degrees. Color & Opacity
Each banner's color must be one of the approved primary or secondary colors in the undergraduate brand (black and gray are not allowed to be used). However, color and opacity can be adjusted slightly in order to ensure readability. In addition, body copy within the banners may be set in black, white, gray or one of the approved undergraduate brand colors. Transparency can be also incorporated with a target setting of 90 percent normal opacity. However, this setting may vary depending on overall readability and contrast with colors in the composition's background.
Banners as Text Holders
Banners can often be used to hold brief segments of text within undergraduate branding materials to enhance readability. With that, they should be used sparingly (also, never use a banner to hold a long segment of text). To ensure that text fits comfortably within the banner, a distance of .125" between the text and the banner's edge is the minimum margin size. However, this size may increase if the larger type for a headline, subhead or call-out is being used.
Banners as Decorative Elements
Banners can be used as decorative elements. For example, they can be incorporated into patterns, page numbers and section openers.
