Accounting involves the preparation, analysis and communication of relevant information to decision makers. Such information often focuses on the resources and obligations of organizations and their subunits as well as the effectiveness and efficiency with which they attain performance objectives.

The discipline of accounting can be subdivided into career paths that include: financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, tax accounting, governmental and public sector accounting, accounting information systems and management consulting services.
