Catholic Social Teaching and American Politics

A discussion of American political culture, this lecture was presented by Christopher Duncan, Ph.D. Dr. Duncan served the Department of Political Science at the University of Dayton from 2001 to 2009 as Professor and Chair. While at UD, his research agenda included work on the relationship between religious belief and political activism in American politics and thought.  His published work has also appeared in American Political Science Review, Polity, The Review of Politics, Public Administration Review and numerous other journals and the magazine Commonweal. 

All You Ever Wanted to Know About the Law, But Have Been Afraid to Ask

This presentation by Judge Walter Rice discussed the importance of the Constitution, both historically and currently. The idea that fundamental problems in the legal system put our constitutional freedoms at risk was also be contemplated. Judge Rice has earned Law degrees from several prominent universities including Northwestern University, Columbia University and the University of Dayton.  He was a lawyer from 1964 to 1969 and a Judge in various capacities from 1969 until his retirement from his position of Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio in 2003.
