The Flexible Plan provides complete flexibility in dining, functioning as a debit account. There are no meal periods tied to a clock or spending allowances associated with this plan. With late night study sessions, most students don't get up for breakfast or eat meals at traditional times. Many students also tend to eat smaller multiple meals during the day. This plan allows you the flexibility to eat whenever you want, as many times a day as you want, and all purchases are deducted from your debit account.
For the 2012- 2013 academic year, 2,590 of the total 2,832 meal plan customers (91.5%) selected this plan. The total cost for the Flexible Plan each semester is $2,300 for the 2013-2014 academic year, and provides $1,500 to spend for the semester.
The plan participation charge ($800) is the same amount typically earned per semester on the Standard Plan, as students don't use meals or don't use their full spending allowance. Since the Flexible Plan works like a debit account, this amount is paid up front. In both cases, this money is applied to Dining Services' operational costs to help cover utilities, labor, and equipment repairs/ purchases to support operating multiple dining venues in convenient locations, as well as maintenance and remodeling of those venues.
100% of all debit funds remaining at the end of Fall Term roll over to the Spring Term if the student maintains a Flexible Plan. Last year, 88% of students had money that rolled over to Spring term. At the end of Spring term, 50% of the remaining balance carries over to the next Fall term up to a maximum of $300.
