Profile

Master Sergeant Eugene Siler was born in Middletown, Ohio and grew up in Trenton, Ohio.  He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1991 and entered the Army in August 1991 as an Infantryman, at Fort Benning, Georgia. 

After completing Basic training and Advanced Infantryman's training MSG Siler's first assignment was at The Old Guard in Arlington, Virgina. He served in The Old Guard from 1992-1998 as a member of Honor Guard Company and the Nations' foremost color team, the Continental Color Guard. Master Sergeant Siler's next assignment was in B Co, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry at Camp Greaves, Korea as a Squad leader from April 1998-April 1999. He was then assigned to 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment at Fort Drum, NY from April 1999- February 2008 where he served as a squad leader and a platoon sergeant. 

While assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, Master Sergeant Siler deployed to Kosovo, and two deployments to Operation Iraqi Freedom. From February 2008 to July 2009, Master Sergeant Siler was assigned to the Non-Commissioned Officers Academy at Fort Knox, where he served as a Senior Small Group Leader for the Maneuver Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course. In July 2009, he was assigned to A Co, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry regiment as a company First Sergeant. He trained and deployed the company to Afghanistan and remained the First Sergeant until April 2011.  Master Sergeant Siler was selected to serve as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) First Sergeant, while deployed to Afghanistan. He served as the First Sergeant for HHC until May 2012. He currently serves as the Senior Military Science Instructor at the University of Dayton, Ohio.

Master Sergeant Siler is a graduate of the following military schools: Airborne; Air Assault; Master Fitness; Warrior Leader Course; Advanced Leaders Course; Senior Leaders Course; and the First Sergeant Course. His civilian education includes an Associate's degree from Central Texas College in General studies.  He is currently working towards his Bachelor's degree in Workforce Leadership from the University of Louisville.

Master Sergeant Siler's awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman's Badge (CIB), the Expert Infantryman's Badge (EIB), Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service medal (1 OLC), the Army Commendation medal (3 OLC), the Army Achievement medal (8 OLC). He has deployed on three combat tours (Iraq twice), and one tour to Afghanistan and a peacekeeping mission to Kosovo.

Master Sergeant Siler is married to his spouse of 20 years, Kara, and they have two daughters, Brianne (20), and Courtney (18).
