Profile

Dr. Robert Jones directs the University Chorale and Choral Union at the University of Dayton. His other duties include teaching vocal music education courses and supervising vocal student teachers. In addition to his public school experience, Dr. Jones has served as an adjudicator, guest conductor, clinician, and baritone soloist in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions of the country. He completed his M.M. in Vocal Performance at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and his DMA in Choral Conducting at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. In the past, Dr. Jones has conducted performances in Washington National Cathedral and has led the UD Chorale in three European tours, performing in England, Scotland, France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Hungary, Poland and Austria. The chorale also performed for the Ohio Music Education Association in 2003 and has sung Johannes Brahms' Requiem and Benjamin Britten's War Requiem with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus.

Dr. Jones is also the artistic director of MUSICA!, a semi-professional choral ensemble known throughout the Miami Valley for its performance excellence. Its musical repertoire ranges from seasonal selections, to partsongs and sacred literature from all musical eras, to vocal jazz and spirituals. MUSICA!'s first CD, GREAT DAY, was released in 2001. Its second CD, REFLECTIONS ON SPIRITUALS, was released in 2005, funded by a grant from the Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District. The ensemble has performed for the Ohio Choral Directors Conference and the Ohio Music Education Conference.

Dr. Jones articles and music reviews have appeared in School Musician and Director, The American Choral Directors Journal, The Catholic Music Educator, The Chorus America Newsletter, Chorus, The National Federation of State High School Associations Journal, The Indiana Music Educators Journal, and Triad, the publication of the Ohio Music Education Association. A published composer and arranger, he was employed as a choral editor for Plymouth Music Company of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
