Michael Keener has been an active performer and teacher in Dayton, Cincinnati, and Chicagoland for many years. He received the Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Master of Music in Trombone Performance from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, where he was a trombone student of Edward Kleinhammer and Jay Friedman, and the Ph.D., with a concentration in Trombone Pedagogy, from the Union Institute in Cincinnati.

As a performer, Dr. Keener is currently Principal Trombonist with the Lebanon Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Summer Opera, the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dayton Philharmonic Concert Band, the Middletown Symphony, and many other large and small ensembles.

In addition to his teaching and performing activities, Dr. Keener is an accomplished and experienced piano tuner/technician, and is an RPT member of The Piano Technicians Guild. He is currently the piano tuner for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra as well as other Dayton area musical venues, churches, schools, and individuals.

Research and study of musical intonation, for both wind/string instrument performance and pianos, has been a long-time pursuit and passion for Dr. Keener. He is author and publisher of The Intonation Tutor, an interactive tutorial on performance intonation.
