Jim McCutcheon has taught at UD since 1978. He is listed on the Ohio Arts Council Touring Roster, and is guitar advisor to the National Federation of Music Clubs. He is president of the Dayton Classical Guitar Society, and a "Friend of the Arts" in Sigma Alpha Iota. He has received several grants from the Ohio Arts Council, and received the Prism Award from the Muse Machine in 2002 for his extensive work with children as "The Guitar Man."
He has produced five solo recordings and has toured Russia with oboist Mark Twehues.
I have taught at UD since 1978, and bring to my teaching the experience of having earned a living at many diverse activities within the music profession, including performance, teaching, and running a music business. I believe that in order to survive in the professional world, music students need to have many skills in addition to the ability to play their instrument, including public relations, marketing, business, and a professional attitude which will be essential for a successful career. This is what I attempt to develop in my students in the music department.
