John Erdei

Associate Professor
Full-Time Faculty
College of Arts and Sciences: Physics

Profile

Dr. Erdei received his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1983. He joined the University of Dayton Department of Physics the same year. He has been involved in research at Wright Patterson Air Force Base with the Aero-Propulsion Laboratory, the Human Factors Group at Armstrong Laboratory, and the Materials Laboratory. These activities have led to his acting as mentor for a number of undergraduates involved in research projects. Projects included mathematical characterizations of electroencephalograms, the mathematical foundations of music, and rapid prototyping of fossils.

Dr. Erdei served as the director of Premedical Programs from 1999 to 2005 and continues to teach courses for the program. The program services approximately 300 students across campus from a variety of disciplines. As director, he utilized the Learning Village technology initiatives to provide enhanced support and information services to students in a pre-health care curriculum, and worked to develop local and international experiences for these students. Dr. Erdei is currently an Assistant Dean and Class Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Faculty Prespective

I am currently devoting part of my time to the Department of Physics, and part of my time to the Premedical Program. Being associated with both programs has allowed me to truly appreciate the quality of both the physics and premedical students. I have always found that UD provides a rich environment for student-faculty interactions in the science disciplines as well as in pre-health care.
