Profile
As assistant dean and director of admissions and financial aid, Janet Hein is responsible for recruiting and admitting each year’s entering class. She also manages the awarding of scholarships for the entire student body, and creates and publishes all material, on- and off-line, relevant to the admissions process. One of her favorite aspects of her job is the personal contact with applicants and students. “I love seeing the students grow and mature throughout their legal education,” she says.
Ms. Hein was attracted to the University of Dayton by the people. “Within my first week,” she says, “almost everyone I came in contact with, in Keller Hall and throughout campus, knew my name.” She believes the individual treatment she received is not unusual. “It’s reflected in how Dayton Law treats applicants and incoming law students,” she says. Before coming to the School of Law, Ms. Hein worked at the University of Minnesota Law School, where she was the assistant director of admissions for 13 years.
Holding a degree in dance and fine arts, Ms. Hein has had more than 20 years of dance training and has choreographed for high schools, community theaters, and colleges. “I use my past performance and choreographic skills when presenting to future law students and in helping them navigate the admissions and financial aid process.”
