Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Becomes a Department

Pam Young Awarded Catholic Health Partners’ Award for Excellence in Governance Leadership


Dr. YoungDr. Pam Young, Director of Accreditation at the School of Education & Health Sciences, was honored for her work in community health by Catholic Health Partners (CHP).

CHP Board Chair Cathy Eldridge had this to say about Dr. Young's service: “[She] has been a leader devoted to assuring quality, effective, compassionate healthcare in Springfield, Ohio, for decades. She entered our ministry as a representative of a long-time competitor that ultimately came together in partnership with us to create a new way to serve Springfield and the surrounding area."

Dr. Young served for ten years on the Board of Community Mercy Health Partners, and has given a lifetime of service to education and community health.

As of Monday, June 23, the faculty and staff of the Dean's Office, the Center for Catholic Education, and the Departments of Teacher Education, Heatlth & Sport Sciences, and Counselor Education & Human Services from the School of Education & Health Sciences from the School of Education & Health Sciences have relocated to the sixth floor of the College Park Center (CPC). The CPC is located on Brown Street, across from the main campus.

UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON EDUCATION PROGRAMS ACCREDITED BY INTERNATIONAL DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION 


The International Dyslexia Association accredited the University of Dayton this month for having met the standards outlined in the IDA's Knowledge and Practice Standards for Teachers of Reading. Read more >>

SEHS Bids Farewell to Chaminade Hall and Frericks Convocation Center


On May 7, 2014, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., faculty, staff, retirees, alumni, and friends of the School of Education & Health Sciences gathered at Chaminade Hall and the Frericks Convocation Center to make a formal farewell to our old and beloved space.

Thomas Hunt, Fellow in the Center for Catholic Education, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014. A native of Madison, Wisconsin, Dr. Hunt has been a beloved teacher at the School of Education & Health Sciences since 1996. He will be greatly missed.

APPLY TO UNDERGRAD TESOL CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The application for admission to the undergraduate Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certificate program is here! The undergraduate TESOL certificate program is for current University of Dayton undergraduate students of any major. It prepares students to teach English as an additional language in post-secondary schools, adult education settings, and private language institutes in the U.S. and abroad.

Ohio Board of Regents reports UD teachers and principals better prepared

Teachers who graduate from the University of Dayton are better prepared and more of their students exceed expectations compared to the average graduate of other Ohio education programs according to a new report by the Ohio Board of Regents. The University also plays a significant role in preparing Ohio principals, with nearly 20 percent of the state's newly licensed principals graduating from the University of Dayton. Students of these principals also meet or exceed expectations at a higher rate than those of graduates of other Ohio principal license programs, according to the report. Read more >>
