About the Lalanne Program

"... and also with you"

Lalanne brings these words to life every day. With a two-year commitment, a devotion to teaching in under-resourced schools and a supportive community, Lalanne will enhance your teaching experience – and your life.

Learn – and Live – in Community

At the University of Dayton, community is a key component of your education. With teaching as a connection, you’ll live in community and offer support – personal, professional and spiritual. As a community, you’ll determine a weekly pattern of community meals and shared time that fits your schedule. Teachers live in former rectories, convents or parish houses in the cities Lalanne serves.

We currently support Lalanne communities in Dayton, Cleveland, Indianapolis and San Antonio, Texas.

Spiritual Growth

As a Lalanne teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to enrich your connection to your faith, and strengthen your beliefs.

Orientation activities, retreat, living in community, discussions with colleagues and daily interactions with students might provide times for you to reflect on your personal faith journey. Each Lalanne community is also assigned a diocesan contact – a person who acts as a local reference for faith activities that you may wish to explore and who assist you with living in community.

Academic Programs

Lalanne participants can enroll in a variety of degree programs.

Lalanne teachers who will be receiving their first license to teach will enroll in the Initial License Masters Degree Program for Lalanne Teachers. In this program, participants will receive provisional licensure in the state of Ohio for grades 7-12.

Candidates must complete approved licensure program coursework in either integrated mathematics, science, integrated social studies, or integrated language arts and pass PRAXIS II prior to provisional licensure.

Other master's programs for Lalanne participants include:

  • Teacher as Leader, which is designed for teachers who would like to become involved in a leadership position while still maintaining teaching responsibilities.
  • Education Leadership, which prepares individuals to work as effective Catholic school administrators and helps them meet state certification/licensure requirements.
  • Theological Studies, which provides students an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and deepen their understanding of Christianity through the academic study of Scripture, historical theology, church history, and contemporary and moral theologies.
  • Pastoral Ministry, which is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in ministry. It combines a background in theological studies with practical training in a ministerial context.
  • Mathematics Education, which helps students meet a state of Ohio requirement that all K-12 grade teachers complete a masters program to maintain a provisional teaching license for a second renewal. Our program meets that requirement and is been designed to specifically address issues important to high school mathematics educators.
  • Education with a Concentration in Literacy, which prepares teachers to assume professional and leadership roles related to literacy in a school setting.
  • Master of Arts In English – Teaching Track, which is designed for currently licensed secondary school Language Arts teachers who are now required to obtain an advanced degree to secure a professional teaching license. Coursework includes English and education courses.
