This past spring, Sogeti USA and Hannah’s Treasure Chest partnered to create a service project for Sogeti USA employees. Providing backpacks filled with school supplies and gym uniforms for students who would be attending urban schools this fall was an identified need and became the focus of their project. Hannah’s Treasure Chest and the Urban Child Development Resource Center (UCDRC) have partnered for many past projects, so Hannah’s contacted UCDRC requesting names and school supply wish lists from 100 students who attend UCDRC schools. Michelle Sherman, UCDRC Family Advocate, was given one week to identify the families in need of this resource. Michelle, with the help of UCDRC counselors, was successful in compiling 102 wish lists from students attending Dayton Early College Academy, Mary Queen of Peace School, and Immaculate Conception School.
On August 8, 2012 students and their families gathered at Immaculate Conception School to receive their backpacks. "It was quite an honor to work collaboratively with other local businesses to provide these children and their families with a new backpack full of supplies," said Kelly Maroney, Marketing Director for Sogeti USA. "As a company, we value education… and we understand that when you get kids excited, they’re more likely to learn."
Parents of the students receiving backpacks were thankful for the community support. Comments from parents included, "I am so thankful for this," and "I am not sure what I would have done." The students were all smiles as they walked away with their new backpack.
