Winning a Blue Ribbon for Catholic Education

Congratulations to Incarnation School in Centerville, Ohio, for being recognized as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of excellence by the U.S. Department of Education! Nominated by the Council for American Private Education, Incarnation is one of only 50 private schools in the nation to receive this notable honor in 2013, their third Blue Ribbon award. Moreover, Incarnation is the only Dayton-area school, public or private, to win Blue Ribbon distinction this year.

Dr. Cheryl Reichel, Principal, Mrs. Susan DiGiorgio, Assistant Principal, and Fr. Scott Wright, Associate Pastor, traveled to Washington, D.C., to receive awards from the National Catholic Education Association as well as the National Blue Ribbon Schools program. On Tuesday, November 19, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan honored the winning schools at a 2013 National Blue Ribbon Schools awards luncheon.

Incarnation Catholic School provides a spiritually and academically rich environment in which children, their families, and the school staff are encouraged to grow in faith as they follow in the footsteps of Jesus. The successful implementation of this mission involves the support and talents of the Incarnation parish community, and the result is a culture of opportunities where children may grow in their academics and spiritually. Students have reached county, state and national levels in science fairs, math leagues, oratorical and language arts contests, band and orchestra competitions, spelling bees, geography bees, and art contests. More than 95% of Incarnation’s graduating students achieve sophomore status in high school foreign language and math classes.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors and recognizes great American public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. Selection is based on either exemplary standardized test scores in reading and math, or on a school’s ability to serve disadvantaged students and show extraordinary progress toward improving performance.
