About Lucinda W. Adams
Lucinda W. Adams was born in Savannah, Georgia. Following her 1955 high school graduation, she enrolled at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, where for four years she was a distinguished student-athlete. As a member of the famed Tiger Belles, the Tennessee State University Women’s track and field team, Adams competed all over the world. Adams holds a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree from Tennessee State. In 1997, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of Dayton, Ohio and in 1998 she received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanics from Springfield College, Massachusetts. Lucinda currently resides in West Palm Beach Florida.
Adams competed in two Olympic Games: 1956 in Melbourne, Australia and 1960 in Rome, Italy. In 1958 she competed in the first U.S. vs U.S.S.R. Track and Field meet in Moscow, where she won two gold medals; one in the 200m dash and one in the 400m relay. She also participated in the 1959 Pan American Games held in Chicago, Illinois, capturing three gold medals: the 100m, 200m, and 400m relay. At the 1960 Rome Olympic Games, she won a gold medal running the third leg of the 400m relay. Lucinda continually serves as an advocate for Girls and Women in Sports. She travels all over the country and internationally, presenting workshops, clinics, and as a keynote speaker.
Adams has served as leader or co-leader of several professional groups to Africa, China, and Great Britain. In October 2010 she was invited to be a keynote speaker for the 50th Anniversary of the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy.
