Welcome to the Professional Development Workshops!

The School of Education & Allied Professions is accredited nationally by NCATE (the Standard of Excellence in Teacher Preparation) and regionally by the Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Purpose


The School of Education & Allied Professions is committed to supporting compassionate professionals in the fields of teaching, higher administration, exercise science and human services by providing opportunities to earn workshop credit toward maintaining licensure renewals. At a reduced rate, you can earn up to six semester hours (with prior approval) of workshop credit to apply toward a master's degree in education.

Earning Workshop Credit


There are several convenient ways to earn workshop credit:

  • Create a workshop (pdf) within your school or organization.
  • Attend an upcoming workshop (on campus or off campus).
  • Register for an online video workshop through Educational Impact Academy.
  • Contact other approved workshop providers who offer University of Dayton workshop credit.

Record of Workshop Credit


All completed graduate workshops through the University of Dayton School of Education & Allied Professions are awarded non-graded workshop credit or “CR” on official transcripts. The credit, or “CR,” is equal to or better than the letter grade of a “B.”

An automatic grade report will be mailed to you approximately one week after the grading period. This report will reflect the credit on your University of Dayton student record. An automatic grade report is not an official transcript.

We have two workshops planned for Spring 2013!

The following workshops are offered through the University of Dayton School of Education & Allied Professions for one, two or three semester hours of PD workshop credit.

Spring 2013


Workshop #1: Developing and Improving Attitudes and Character


“A Vital Key to Student Success”

This workshop is designed for all educators and will stress the implementation of the “Character Card” system, a proven method for improving the attitude and character of students. This hands on class will challenge participants to develop their own plan for character development. Mr. Jim Place will be the primary presenter for this workshop.

Class #1: Developing and Improving Attitude and Character

  • When: Tuesday, June 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. Registration at 8:00
  • Where: 1700 S. Patterson Blvd., the old NCR headquarters, which is now the University of Dayton River Campus
  • Credit: You must complete your assignment by June 27. This is a Summer, Term One, 2013 class. Non-graded credit will be posted the week of July 8.

Note: Class #2 was only offered this winter and will not be offered this summer.

Class #3: Character Education


"Best Practices"

Six classroom teachers will share their proven method for improving the attitude and character of students. At times the class will split into Elementary, Middle School and Secondary. This hands on class will challenge participants to develop their own plan for character development. Mr. Jim Place will be the primary presenter for this class.

  • When: Tuesday, June 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. Registration at 8:00
  • Where: 1700 S. Patterson Blvd., the old NCR headquarters, which is now the University of Dayton River Campus
  • Credit: You must complete your assignment by June 27. This is a Summer, Term One, 2013 class. Non-graded credit will be posted the week of July 8.

Class #5: Passion as an Educator through Character Education


(Note: This is the first time this class has been offered.)

To Register


Pre-registration is required and must be received five days before the workshop. Your $50.00 non-refundable registration fee must accompany your registration. You will receive a confirmation email from Jim Place to confirm receipt of your registration.

Tuition & Fees


$200.00 per semester hour. Participants have the option of taking the class for one, two or three credits. Additional independent study will be required if taking the class for two or three credits. Payment for the university tuition will be collected on the day of the workshop. These are pass/fail classes.

The University of Dayton in collaboration with Educational Impact (EI) Academy is pleased to provide workshop credit for Educational Impact Academy online video programs. EI is a premier online provider of professional development videos for teachers, administrators and university students.

Greene County Career Center Adult Workforce Division


The University of Dayton, in collaboration with the Greene County Career Center, is offering workshop credit (graduate and undergraduate) for online, on-demand, self-paced Professional Development courses. “Ed2Go” instructor-led courses are comprehensive six-week courses, accessible 24/7 from anywhere with an Internet connection.
