Adapted Physical Education Program

Each year students in the physical education program work with more than 100 multiple-handicapped students in the Dayton Public schools, developing relationships with them while serving their physical education needs.

Association for Young Children

University of Dayton's Association for Young Children is the professional organization for early childhood educators at UD. UDAYC organizes programs and tutors for local elementary schools; sends students to national, state and local conferences; and participates in area professional development programs.

Athletics and Recreation Facilities

The Thomas J. Frericks Center, Baujan Field and outdoor playing fields are all available for use by students. The RecPlex, a state-of-the-art fitness and recreation complex, offers aerobics, cardiovascular and weight rooms with the latest equipment; classrooms; a climbing wall; four courts for basketball, floor hockey, volleyball and other activities; and eight-lane natatorium and whirlpool; an elevated 1/8-mile indoor track; group fitness studios; locker rooms; and a lounge and juice bar.

Bombeck Family Learning Center

The Bombeck Family Learning Center is the Dayton area's leading early childhood education center. Operated in conjunction with the School of Education and Allied Professions, it serves as a demonstration school for students studying early childhood education.

Clubs related to specific majors

Students who major in dietetics, pre-physical therapy, physical education and sport management can join department-specific clubs that offer a variety of educational, leadership and service activities.

College Middle Level Association

The Collegiate Middle Level Association provides professional growth and service opportunities to Middle Childhood Education majors.

Collegiate Adolescent to Young Adult Club

UD's chapter of the Collegiate Adolescent to Young Adult Club builds a greater community in the AYA academic program by providing opportunities to apply academic knowledge to service and field experiences, sharing information about career opportunities and building connections with professionals in the field. CAYAC is the founding organization of the student education symposium which brings together all licensure areas to learn about successful, national educational programs and innovations in education.

Council for Exceptional Children

The UD student chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children increases interaction and awareness of those with special needs by becoming involved with numerous organizations and schools.

Dayton Early College Academy

The Dayton Early College Academy is an innovative community school sponsored by Dayton Public Schools, and operated by the University of Dayton. Its singular focus is preparing urban students to attend and succeed in college. In 2008, US News & World Report awarded DECA a bronze medal in its second annual ranking of America's Best High Schools. DECA serves as a demonstration school for University of Dayton students who are studying adolescent to young adult education.

Epsilon Delta Upsilon

Epsilon Delta Upsilon is a professional co-ed fraternity for education and health and sport science majors that promotes knowledge and understanding of their fields of study. Members Participate in activities that advance their mission of unity, service and professionalism.

Fitness Assessment Center

Established in 2006, the Fitness Assessment Center is a state-of-the-art facility equipped to test muscle strength, aerobic power and body composition using "gold standard" instrumentation rarely found in such a facility. Students can gain expertise in using equipment such as the isokinetic dynamometer, BodPod and metabolic cart for testing and research.

John R. Schleppi Sport Management Career Enhancement Fund

The Schleppi Fund provides funding for a sport management major to attend a professional conference and explore career possibilities. The award, named for the first director of the Sport Management program at UD, is unique because it is awarded by a panel of seniors to a fellow student.

Lalanne Program

The Lalanne Program at the University of Dayton specializes in supporting beginning Catholic school educators. A post-graduate program, Lalanne provides an opportunity to combine ervice and teaching. Those in the program make a two-year commitment to teach in an under-resourced Catholic school, live together in a faith community and take master's degree courses during the summers.

The SSCO improves education through the cooperative examination of educational issues, the diffusion of proven effective educational practices, and the active participation of all individuals interested in educational exploration and planning.

Stander Cup

The Stander Cup helps kick off the annual Stander Symposium, a two-day celebration of academic excellence, rich collaborations, and the many forms of intellectual, artistic and spiritual growth on campus. On the first evening of the Stander Symposium, six-person teams compete in cornhole, dodgeball, trivia, basketball and other events to win the Stander Cup. Students in the Sport Management program manage all aspects of the event, from promotion and volunteer coordination to sponsorship support and implementation.

Student Education Symposium

The annual student-run Student Education Symposium connects pre-service teachers with practitioners in the field through speakers, discussion panels, workshop sessions and networking opportunities.

Undergraduate Research with Faculty

Each year, undergraduate students work alongside faculty to conduct and publish research in respected journals such as Journal of Strength and Conditioning, Future Focus, Journal of Exercise Physiology online and Applied Research in Coaching and Athletics.

Wellness Program

Our students manage UD's Wellness Program for faculty and staff on campus. The program promotes a healthy lifestyle through activity-based courses, lecture programs, individual fitness assessments and screening programs for specific health risks. Students have opportunities in program coordination and in service as a wellness personal fitness trainer for program participants.
