About Us
Founded in 1988, the Center for Competitive Change has helped clients save millions of dollars by delivering innovative, performance-based learning solutions, especially in the areas of Lean and Lean Six Sigma. Located at the University of Dayton's School of Engineering in Dayton, Ohio, the Center for Competitive Change has worked with over 1000 of the country's top regional and global organizations by providing learning events that integrate learning and immediate, applied action.
Mission
The Center for Competitive Change provides integrated performance-based, learning events to help our clients achieve business and operational excellence. Through an applied learning approach, we help organizations assess, develop, and implement world-class culture transformation. We achieve this position by maintaining extensive, top-value learning events (training) and performance accelerator programs (products and services).
Vision
To enable our clients and partners to achieve "supreme execution" through accelerating their wisdom, compressing time, eliminating waste, and providing increased value and benefits to their customers.
Philosophy
1. Listen
Every business is different. That is why we will start our relationship with your organization by listening to your specific problems and issues. Only through listening can we learn how to best suit the needs of your organization. Every need, no matter how small, is important enough to make a difference in your organization's performance.
2. Learn
Merriam-Webster defines 'learning' as such: "to gain knowledge or understanding by study, instruction, or experience." Learning about the problems facing your organization allows us to completely and clearly understand the best way to solve these problems and to help you turn a greater profit. Our team is well-prepared and has the experience, wisdom, and judgment that will assure that you are receiving the best possible solution to the challenges that your organization faces.
3. Practice
Practice comes from doing and knowledge comes from practicing what you just learned on your own problems and in your own environment. The Center's resources have the forethought, leadership, experience, and knowledge to understand what it takes to run a competitive and successful organization. Our team will listen and learn to understand your situation so we can provide you the best connections between your unique situations and problems, and what you just learned.
4. Apply
Our success results from our clients' successes in gaining new knowledge and applying it immediately back into their work places. Typical adults learn about 20-30% from a standard classroom instructor-led course. They retain only about 10% after they return to work. Our goal is to quadruple these numbers by integrating learning and application. We call it "applied learning." We accomplish this goal by working together from building the exact solution to executing the solution, always together, always with your interests first.

Our Team
The Center's core strengths are based on its early roots with the Japanese masters of lean. Over the years, Carol Shaw, Cash Powell and now Paul Piechota and Steve Budde as part of the leadership team, have not only led clients to achieve regional and national recognition, but increased their resource levels of expertise and capabilities using the proven tools of success. Theory, practice and performance come together from their knowledge and skills and foundational practices. Our people are the strength of this organization, and it is they who bring the core ingredient that makes our business team superior over competition.
In addition, the Center incorporates a very strong nationally-known buffer team of subject matter experts crossing each of the lean, ISO and Lean Six Sigma vocations. From customers to factory floor to suppliers, from health care organizations to educational institutions, the Center for Competitive Change continues to develop into an effective provider of performance-based training and education designed to meet the needs of those organizations seeking change.
