The ETHOS program's partner in Chilumba is Maji Zuwa, a lodge run by University of Dayton alumni Matthew Maroon. The lodge strives to build working relationships with the local population and visitors. Maji Zuwa and its partners work to lift the people of Malawi out of poverty using their own abilities and talents rather than hand-outs. ETHOS has been visiting the site since 2011 and has worked on a variety of projects.
Project Highlight: School Construction and Water Pump
Malawi, the Warm Heart of Africa, has had a warm heart for the ETHOS program the past several years as well. In 2013, the ETHOS team built a nursery school and adjacent kitchen with the help of local brick layers in the village of Sangilo. In addition to this, a water pump for a hospital, which had been broken for four years, was repaired and reinstalled, bringing proper healthcare to many rural Malawians.
"Malawi is the place to be! In Malawi, there is a need, there is passion, and there is opportunity; truly a recipe for great things. In recent years, we've built a primary school and drip irrigation system, but perhaps most importantly, we built friendships!"
