Materials Engineering Graduate Program
With state-of-the-art facilities, classes focusing on cutting-edge topics, and real-world research opportunities with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory and the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), the graduate program in materials engineering has an international reputation for excellence. The program ranks third in the nation, according to Academic Analytics, and UD currently ranks second in the nation in the amount of federally-funded and total materials research it performs, according to the National Science Foundation. The program is structured to accommodate students from a wide-range of academic and technical backgrounds, and its flexible design accommodates both full-time and part-time students not only from the United States but also internationally.The Master of Science (M.S.) program offers both thesis and non-thesis options. For the thesis option, students must take 24 semester hours of course work (8 classes) and 6 semester hours of research credit. For the non-thesis option, students must take 30 semester hours of course work (10 classes). The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program includes 30 hours of course work beyond the M.S. and 30 hours of research leading to a dissertation.
