Documentation Requirements for International Students

International students must complete the same three documents as domestic students before being permitted to work.

  • Employee Data Sheet (.doc). UDRI employees only: As a student employee at the University of Dayton Research Institute, you must complete this form.
  • Computer Usage Policy Acceptance Form (.doc). UDRI employees only: As a student employee at the University of Dayton Research Institute, you must complete this form.
  • Intellectual Property Rights Agreement (.doc) UDRI employees only: As a student employee at the University of Dayton Research Institute, you must complete this form.

The Federal I-9 requires that you also bring proof of your eligibility to work in the United States. The most common documents are a valid driver's license and social security card (both must be presented). Other acceptable documents can be found on page 4 of the Student Employee Handbook (.pdf). Original documents are required.

International student employees must have a Social Security Number before being permitted to work. For new international student employees, there may be a two- to three-week delay between the offer of employment and the time they can begin to work, due to the Social Security Administration's standard processing of the students' application for their Social Security cards.

For this reason, it is imperative that international student employees take their Offer of Employment Letter (provided by the supervisor) to the Social Security Administration immediately after receiving the offer of employment! It is also imperative that international student employees bring their Social Security card to the Flyers First Office, St. Mary's Hall, room 411, immediately upon receipt, so that they can begin working.
