
Honors Thesis Timeline
The following dates reflect the typical timeline for a student completing an Honors thesis.
Co-op students and December graduates will have timelines different from that of the typical full-time Honors or Scholars student. Note that the majority of the following dates still apply.
Fourth or Fifth Semester
October
Submit Initial Information Document indicating interest in completing an Honors Program diploma.
Attend required workshops.
Register for the first three hours of the Honors Thesis credit for the upcoming semester.
December 10
Submit the Thesis Intent Document; the Thesis Advisor must be chosen by this date. This formally acknowledges the student as a thesis writer.
- Submit by 12/10/11 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/13
- Submit by 12/10/12 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/14
- Submit by 12/10/13 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/15
- Submit by 12/10/14 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/16
Sixth Semester
January
Honors Program checks academic standing (student need take no action).
April
Register for the second three hours of the Honors Thesis credit for the upcoming semester.
Submit the Thesis Research Proposal and Fellowship Application.
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/12 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2013
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/13 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2014
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/14 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2015
- Thesis proposal due 4/1/15 if you will graduate in Spring, Summer or Fall 2016
Grant awards announced in late April.
May 1
Thesis Progress Report I from Advisor of Contact (student need take no action).
July 1
Thesis fellowships disbursed.
Seventh Semester
September
Attend required Senior Honors Diploma Workshop.
November 1
Thesis Progress Report II from Advisor of Contact (student need take no action).
November 15 (December graduates only)
To graduate with an Honors Program diploma submit digital copy all Word documents of the student's thesis to the University Honors Program Office Coordinator.*
*Important Note: The Honors Program will have three copies of the Honors Thesis Project printed at the UD Copy Center (one each for student, advisor and UHP), plus a copy for any additional advisors.
Eighth Semester
January 31
Complete the Symposium Registration Form to register thesis information for the Honors Students Symposium.
March 1
Thesis Progress Report III from Advisor of Contact (student need take no action).
March
Oral presentation of thesis at the Honors Students Symposium (HSS).
- You participate in the HSS March 2012 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/12
- You participate in the HSS March 2013 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/13
- You participate in the HSS March 2014 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/14
- You participate in the HSS March 2015 if you will graduate on or before 12/31/15
April
Poster presentation at the Stander Symposium.
April 9
To graduate with an Honors Program diploma submit digital copy all Word documents of the student's thesis to the University Honors Program Office Coordinator.

May 1
Final grade form due by the Advisor of Contact (student need take no action).
