Practice Makes Perfect. It Also Makes Better Lawyers.
At the University of Dayton School of Law, we prepare our graduates to be lawyers who can solve problems, whether they are the problems of a person, a family, an organization or even society at large. By equally applying a broad base of legal knowledge, extensive practical experience and professional values to the cause of helping others, our graduates have the ability to distinguish themselves in their careers while making a real impact upon the world.
We pride ourselves on creating well-rounded lawyers immersed in all aspects of the law. At Dayton Law, you will be exposed to the challenging classroom dialogues found throughout the nation's top law schools. You also will be expected to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world problems through capstone courses, externships and live-client clinics. It is this balance of theory and practice that gives our graduates uncommon knowledge and rare distinction.
Another noticeable difference is our emphasis on the personal touch. We understand that every student has unique needs, talents and goals. It's why we maintain small class sizes and why one-on-one instruction, guidance and in-depth personal, academic, bar and career counseling from faculty and administrators are the norm, not the exception, at Dayton Law.
Our academic calendar is designed to provide students a more flexible academic calendar. That means you can graduate in two years. Or start your legal studies early under our summer-start option.
If you are ready for a challenging legal education that provides you with an opportunity to change your life — along with the lives of countless others — we are ready to be your partner.

Academic Programs
J.D. Program
An education at Dayton Law begins with our strong belief in what a lawyer is: a problem solver. In our Lawyer as Problem Solver curriculum, we teach students how to use their knowledge of the law as a tool to help people resolve their legal problems as well as community and global issues.
In addition to a traditional three-year program, we offer an Accelerated Two-Year Option. No matter which path you choose, we offer a flexible system to support your needs. Our dedicated faculty, state-of-the art facilities, and warm and vibrant community augment a well-rounded and practical law school experience.
Graduate Programs
We offer two graduate degrees in Intellectual Property and Technology Law: a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a Master in the Study of Law (M.S.L.). Each program offers instruction in all aspects of intellectual property law, computer-related and cyberspace law, and entertainment and mass communication law.
Joint Degree Programs
We offer two distinct joint degree programs: a J.D. and master of business administration degree and a J.D. and master of science in educational administration.

Earn Your J.D. in 2 Years
Pursuing a law degree can seem like a daunting task. This can be especially true if you started a career in another field, or face the challenge of balancing your studies with the demands of family life. But such demands don't have to keep you from pursuing your dream of a legal career. That's why we offer an Accelerated Two-Year Option that fits your goals and lifestyles. (And allows you to save a year's worth of living expenses.) This means you graduate sooner and can become employed faster.
While the academic pace is quicker than the more traditional three-year schedule, when you take advantage of the two-year option you enroll in the same rigorous curriculum and have the same opportunities to participate in special programs, like externships and clinics, as well as extracurriculars.
Flexible Schedule
The Lawyer as Problem Solver program is designed to be flexible, so we also provide you an option to take an accelerated pace and finish in five semesters. Begin classes in May 2012 and graduate in May 2014.
2-Year Program:
| 1st semester (May-August): | 16 credit hours |
| 2nd semester (August-December): | 15 credit hours |
| 3rd semester (January-May): | 18 credit hours |
| Summer semester (May-August): | 5 credit hours |
| 4th semester (August-December): | 18 credit hours |
| 5th semester (January-May): | 18 credit hours |
2½-Year Program (with Fall Start):
Need yet another option? Students may also graduate in two and half years, at a pace slightly quicker than our traditional three-year program. This means you can begin classes in August 2012 and graduate in December 2014.
