March 2011 Faculty Briefs

Tim Swensen, assistant dean and director of the Career Services Office, published an article, How to Avoid Taking Another Bar Exam When Relocating, in the December/January edition of the ABA's The Young Lawyer.


Professors Sheila Miller, Susan Wawrose and Victoria VanZandt will present, with Professor Johanna Oreskovic of Buffalo Law School, "Guidance from the Bench and Bar," at the Second Colonial Frontier Legal Writing Conference, "The Arc of Advanced Legal Writing: From Theory Through Teaching to Practice," March 5 at Duquesne School of Law.


Assistant Professor Sam Han will discuss "Man v. Nature: Monsanto and Genetically Modified Soy Beans" at CincyBIO 2011: The Bioscience Event for Innovators and Intellectual Property Professionals, sponsored by Cincinnati Intellectual Property Law Association, on March 8 in Cincinnati.


Associate Professor Eric Chaffee presented at several events in February: on February 28, he presented, "Globalization and Securities Law: A Comparative Analysis of Insider Trading Regulation," the Thomas Feeney Memorial Lecture for the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law; on February 18, he presented "Exploring the Contractual Foundations of Employment Law and Business Law: Resolving What Fiduciary Duties Are Owed to Shareholder Employees" at Stetson University College of Law as part of the International Conference on Contracts; and on February 5, he presented "Financial Regulation in Cyberspace: Creating a Comprehensive Regulatory System for Person-to-Person Lending" at the Ohio Legal Scholarship Workshop at Capital University Law School.


Professor Thomas Hagel is profiled in the spring issue of UNO Magazine in an article asking four University of Nebraska graduates to provide guidelines for hiring a lawyer. Hagel received a J.D. in 1976 and a B.S. in 1972 from the University of Nebraska.

Hagel also was quoted in an article on NewsTalkRadioWHIO.com and the Springfield, Ohio, News-Sun about a woman who received a pardon from outgoing Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.
