Completion of our multi-age education licensure program provides you with a provisional license allowing you to teach anywhere in Ohio for grades pre-kindergarten through 12.
And, with four concentrations to choose from, you'll be ready to employ the most innovative methods to guide your students toward a fuller understanding of the subjects that led you to want to share your knowledge with others — to teach
After completing the licensure requirements, you can pursue your master's degree by completing the degree's core requirements and a minimum of 30 semester hours.
Program Requirements
Applicants to the multi-age education program should submit the following information in addition to the online application:
- Official academic records of all previously attended colleges or universities must be submitted directly from the colleges or universities to the Office of Graduate Admission Processing. Hand-carried transcripts, official copies marked Issued to Student and unofficial copies are not acceptable.
- Three letters of recommendation from professors or employers.
- A personal statement or résumé.
- Results from the GRE or MAT are required for applicants with an undergraduate grade-point average below 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- Applicants may wish to submit copies of their Praxis results and current licensures, if available. Including copies of these documents will help to more efficiently process the application.
Applicants must have attained an undergraduate cumulative grad- point average of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants who have less than a 2.75 cumulative GPA may be admitted if they achieve a raw score of 40 or higher or a scaled score of 396 or higher on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or scaled scores of 149 or higher on the verbal ability and 4.0 or higher on the analytical writing sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). For test administrations prior to October 2002, a scaled score of 490 or higher on the analytical ability section is required.

What is the transcript evaluation process?
After receiving a complete application, the department will conduct a transcript review. A check sheet will be sent to the applicants showing which requirements have been met and which courses they need to take. After the transcript review has been completed, students can make an appointment to meet with an adviser.
How long will it take me to get my teaching license?
After you have had your transcripts evaluated, you will know what the requirements are and what course work you will need to take. How long it will take depends on how much course work you need to meet program requirements and how many courses you are able to take each semester.
I am working full time. Can I pursue my license while working?
Many of the courses that you need to take are offered in the evenings. When you begin your professional courses in education, you will need to be available for field experiences in school settings. Some students are able to take vacation/personal time for the required participation in schools. The student teaching semester will require 10 weeks of full days in the field.
What other requirements do I have to meet besides completing course work for my license?
To be provisionally licensed in the state of Ohio you must pass the PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching Exams and the PRAXIS II subject area exam. The PRAXIS II subject-area exams must be passed prior to student teaching. The PRAXIS II Principles of Learning and Teaching Exams may be taken during your field experience semesters.
What if I already have a license, but I want a master's degree in adolescence to young adult education, middle childhood education or multi-age education?
Students who have a license in one of the three areas above and are interested in obtaining a master's degree should contact the department of teacher education via e-mail or phone (937-229-3346).
Should I apply for licensure or to the master's program?
The master's degree may be pursued after completing the requirements for licensure.
Completion of the licensure program requirements for multi-age education leads to provisional licensure in the state of Ohio for pre-kindergarten through grade 12. Concentration requirements also include professional education course work. Candidates must pass required PRAXIS II subject assessment exam(s) prior to student teaching. What does the multi-age licensure program prepare me to teach?
The multi-age licensure program is designed for those who have an undergraduate degree in a discipline relating to, and wish to teach, either art, music or foreign language grades K-12.The program includes course work in a teaching field as well as in education.
