Human Factors Engineering Certificate
Human Factors Engineering is defined as the comprehensive integration of human characteristics into the system definition, design, development and evaluation to optimize the performance of human-machine combinations. HFE also is concerned with reducing the probability that a human will make an error in the operation, maintenance, or support of a system; and with the degree to which an individual is able to accomplish a task, or series of tasks, under specific conditions, to meet a specified standard. Ergonomics emphasizes the human's physical capabilities and limitations.
This certificate is designed for those individuals currently in or pursuing technical leadership positions involving the design and development of complex programs, processes or products.
Admission Requirements
Students seeking this certificate must apply to and be admitted into a Graduate School degree program. All Graduate School policies pertaining to admission apply.
Applicants in need of a math review may first take ISE 404: Engineering Concepts for Non-Engineers. Applicants needing a crossover course in psychology must first take the one semester hour PSY XXX: Psychology Concepts for Engineers.
